Mildred Lili‘u Kane, 90, of Hilo died May 8 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Honolulu, she was a retired salesclerk. Alfred “Freddy” Hanuala Rabara Sr., 87, of Kailua-Kona died May 14 at Hospice of Kona Nakamaru Hale. Born in Waipunalei, he was a retired Hawaii Police Department sergeant, Hawaii National Guard veteran, musician who played with the Brown and Kalima families, member of Haili Congregational Church men’s choir, Lions Club of Kona and Eagles Athletic Club of Hilo, Cub Scout leader for Central Kona Union Church, past president of Kai Opua Canoe Club and Kona Marlins Athletic Club, former coach for Konawaena High School boys basketball and Central Athletic Club, former West Hawaii coordinator for then-Mayor Herbert Matayoshi and moderator for Helani Congregational Church. Visitation 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4, at Helani Congregational Church in Kahaluu Mauka. Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Casual attire; flowers welcome. Survived by sons, Alfred Rabara Jr. and Rollin (Tammie) Rabara of Kealakekua; sister in-law, Mary Namahoe of Hilo; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews and cousins.
